Presenting...the first edition of an online...

Winter 2009
I am about 80 years old. Since about 1930, I have been a proud partner of what started out being known as Birchwood Lodge. The footwear has been interesting over the years - Birkenstocks, clogs, Ugg boots, flip flops, high heeled shoes...you name it, they'll try it!
I grew in 1964. I really like my new section which today seats tables 1 - 4. I've experienced the following many times... "Hysterical laughter will turn to hysterical sobbing JUST like that."
Imagine how many orange Osoha moons I have seen rising over the lake. Horse and goggling used to be a fun way to divide up extra food on the table. No more!
I just love having all of the Osoha songs sung to me - floor stomping, not so much. I've been in the middle of a great meal when the whole Camp has exited me for the basement - real nice!
I have one of the best views of Big Lake Muskie through my screens. I'm always taken good care of by the cookees - not to mention the guys who give me an occasional mopping.
When weather is wet and windy, down go my flaps and everyone is welcome to join me for games, letter writing etc. I'm pleased when I see old faces from my past returning to visit their daughters, nieces and granddaughters.
When the activity charts go up I feel like a decorated Christmas tree. Before that deadline, I'm an A&C nightmare. Under my guard lots of people go from bows to arrows (slouches and hunches are not to be mentioned).
Singing "Announcements, announcements..." to Linda gets me all revved up! Seems like just yesterday that campers were spinning those 45's in the lodge and dancing between 1st and 2nd soupies.
When the bus pulls out and everything is quiet, I am just as sad as you are, but the war canoes and rowboats keep me company. I wondered what was happening when SeaHorse Cabin was moved - it made room for the new director's house and Foothill.
Oh...the laughs I have heard! I feel so festive and proud to get dressed up for the special days like July 4, Christmas and of course, Final Banquet.
Once a summer I get treated to "Oh When the Saints Go Marching In." Sometimes mice and raccoons keep me company during the long cold winter months - it's not pretty!
Smells have come and gone...dilly bread, liver, apple pie, prunes, green chili chicken..... I always got a chuckle out of hearing "Ding ding, ding, ding, ding here comes my wagon" coming from Table 13.
I've hosted many a fine performance - stunt nights, song and stage performances, dance shows, and talent shows! I knew it was Thursday when Nawahne showed up in rollers for lunch - after all, "It was her day off!"
Braves and toughs are long gone - as are the "Diet Table" and the No Desserts' list! Thank goodness. Imagine how many birthday cakes have been lit and taken to the summer birthday girl.
